We love projects where the owners are explicit in their needs and desires, and participate wholly in the design process. We tackled not one, but three remodels and small additions to this home over the years, and the owners’ participation has been integral to the success of each phase. This home’s open beam wood ceilings and simple interiors are the perfect backdrop to the views and beach life. Bamboo flooring and a large PV solar array are indicative of the owners’ commitment to sustainability and minimizing their footprint, especially in such a sensitive marine and marsh environment. We often tell clients that building a beach house is akin to building a boat – and in that spirit, we took advantage of all the nooks and crannies this multi-level home offered. Big skylights let natural daylight pour into smaller spaces, and a custom Bulthaup kitchen is the epicenter.
