Saltgrass Cottage
Some homes just have good bones, and this one has been showing off since the 1930s. A classic beach cottage in the truest sense, this charming board-and-batten beauty has grown gracefully over the decades, collecting additions and stories along the way. When it came time for a refresh, the goal was simple: honor everything that made it special while breathing new life into the spaces where memories are made.
This cottage was originally built for gathering and that intention remains important today. With multiple living areas, generous outdoor spaces, a detached guest cottage, and plenty of bedrooms, the layout practically pulls everyone together. Several quaint, shared bathrooms keep things communal and casual, just like beach life should be. Whether it's a lazy morning on the porch or a full house buzzing with family, this home knows how to host.
Natural materials and textures set the tone throughout - woven textiles, organic finishes, and surfaces that feel relaxed and lived-in. It's beachy without being kitschy, layered without feeling overdone. Lighting, tile, and wallpaper introduce playful patterns, unexpected combinations, and colors that make you smile the second you walk in. We’re big believers that a beach house should feel casual and fun, and these details deliver exactly that.
The original board and batten bones of the cottage are still very much intact, nodding to the long tradition of beach homes in this area. The updates feel intentional but not precious, like we just helped the cottage become a better version of itself. The result is a home that feels like it’s always been this way – colorful, welcoming, and a gathering place where there’s always room for one more at the table.

This cottage earns its gathering-place reputation the old-fashioned way — great bones and a lot of heart. NMA stewarded the revitalization beautifully, and that gave us the foundation to thread a color story we're truly proud of through every space: sophisticated coastal hues anchored in deep ocean tones, with tile and wallcovering doing the heavy lifting room by room.
