Over the years, many clients have preferred home designs that trend to be larger, more detailed, and more elaborate - “bigger is better”. Tom’s vision for his home was something much simpler than that. So, for his design we went back to the basics. We went for quality vs. quantity… with what is just essential and needed for modern living. The resulting size, scale and the understated feel of the home is fantastic. It has a Zen-like simplicity and elegance. We’ve learned a lot from the process of designing Tom’s home. There is definitely something to be said for going back to the basics and focusing on the essentials. The mid-century modernist architect Mies van der Roche coined the phrase “less is more”. We couldn’t agree more: less can be more.
